Rocky Road

Once I had that one friend

That made me feel as if,

I was an old chunk of iron.

Magnetized me stiff.

Couldn’t wait to hear,

The comic lava flow.

Flowing from her lips,

Volcanic talent show.

Laughing until our ribs,

Couldn’t take no more.

We’d somehow wind up,

Sprawled out onto the floor.

Shopping was our contact sport,

We’d avoid all kinds of hypes.

Bargain’s found, she’d wear hers,

Like a tiger wears his stripes.

I would have never wanted,

To tame that friend of mine.

Inside she suffered deeply,

So, the outside had to shine.

I’m still plain old vanilla.

My mind and body slowed.

But, I know there in heaven,

Sweet Elaine is rocky road!

  3. some people are just that - "larger than life" - and we think we're "dull" in comparison; which of course isn't the truth - but they tend to bring out the best or better sides of ourselves ... even if they are suffering on the inside of themselves ... and clearly, your friend was one of these people; it is always good to honour these memories, and perhaps, to dare just a little from time to time, step into your own "stripes" with a smile in your heart and a silent "thank you" to them;

a wonderful way to remember and share your thoughts about such a friend Vicki

  4. A great tribute to your stripe wearing friend. But then, there is nothing wrong with vanilla. It is my favorite ice cream flavor. I frequently make this at home - rich and luxurious and full of vanilla seeds and cream. You had one of those rare friends who taught you a lot. I am glad she knew you.

    1. Thanks for your kind words today, Toni. She really did, I think in hindsight more than anything she taught me to be a kinder person, because you never know what someone is going through. I love vanilla too. :)

A Fairy Christmas

A chilly breeze, the mistletoe sways. A brush of wings… Fairies may have passed your way. A glitter dusting, a playfu...
